Providing Solutions to Homelessness

We believe homelessness in Boston can be solved.

Friends of Boston’s Homeless supports innovative, solutions-oriented programs with proven track records that help people move from the streets and shelters into safe, dignified housing and live peaceful, hopeful, fulfilling lives in our community. We focus on removing the final barriers of transition that often city and state programs, and the people they help, don’t have the means to cover. The final transition steps out of homelessness are often the most crucial, and we help make them happen.

Friends supports a number of vital programs in the City of Boston that help end homelessness including Housing First, Rapid Rehousing, Front Door Triage, Vocational Training and Workforce Development, and Transitional and Permanent Affordable Housing, and the emergency shelters, Woods Mullen Women’s and Southampton Men’s (formerly Long Island Shelter) run by Boston Public Health Commission. We also own and operate three Permanent Supportive Housing Programs in the community: 12-14 Wise Street, Yetman Men’s Supportive Housing Program, and Valentine Women’s Supportive Housing Program. Combined, these programs and services help hundreds of people each year move beyond shelter to lead stable, independent lives in our community.

Friends also provides technical assistance and expertise in developing new transitional programs and the on-going improvement of existing programs to ensure the current and changing needs of homeless people in our community are met.

Like a Parent/Teachers Organization or a “Friends of the Public Library” group, Friends bridges the gap between public sector funding and the current needs of the homeless by providing a vehicle for individuals, businesses, foundations and charitable organizations to be a part of the solution to homelessness.

We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities and group drive options, along with several ways to contribute through our fundraising events, sponsorships, donations to programs, and through our new Housewarming Registry.
